United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

United Methodist Women is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 women. We are a community of women committed to mission. It is the womens mission organization within the United Methodist Church. We raise more than $15 million annually for mission in the United State and around the world. As a member you can take advantage of many opportunities; including Prayer, Leadership Development, Supporting work with women, children and youth, and Engagement in racial justice issues.

Woodmar United Methodist Women do not meet in the summer, but resumes in the fall  with a potluck lunch. All women of the congregation are invited to attend.

The UMW interprets the biblical passage from Luke 4:18 as both a model and a mandate for Christian Social actions and advocacy. We support work on peace and justice, education, racial justice, immigration rights, and the environment, to name a few. Check our section in the church library for books pertaining to those topics. Need help? Irene Maurer is our Program Resources Mission Coordinator.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 10:19 NIV In a world with such hate and violence let’s share a common message of  “Love More” this month!

The Woodmar Unit of UMW has 25 members, divided into 3 group called Circles. Two of the Circles meet during the day and one in the evening. Yvonne Jackson presides over the Unit and Pam Lewis, Donna Benirschke and Betsey Hartigan chair the Circles. Come visit a Circle to better understand our commitment to UMW and to Woodmar.
